The Board of Education cordially invites all members of the school community to attend a meeting on Dec. 8, 2015 in the James A. Dever School from 6:30 - 7:30 pm to assist the Board in establishing direction for the selection process for the new Superintendent of Schools. The Board is facing its most difficult challenge, replacing its chief school officer and wants the community to be a part of this process.

The first, and probably the most important, part of the process is to identify the personal characteristics and professional qualifications the Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen school community would like the new superintendent of schools to possess. At this meeting, you will have an opportunity to meet one or more of the search consultants from School Leadership, LLC, a national firm engaged by the Board to conduct the search process. The consultants will describe the search process and timeline and solicit responses to the following three questions: 1. From your perspective, what would attract a highly qualified educator to seek the position of superintendent in our school district? 2. What do you see as some of the major leadership challenges that the new superintendent will face over the next three to five years? 3.What prior experiences and personal and professional qualities would you hope the new superintendent will have?

Information from this meeting, and other community meetings will be synthesized into a set of search specifications that the Board anticipates approving at its Dec. 16, 2014 meeting. These specifications will then guide the Board of Education and search team as it undertakes the search for the new superintendent.

If you are unable to attend this meeting, but would like to provide your input, we would ask that you complete a brief survey which can be found at: Thank you in advance for participating in this important process.
