Board of Education Annual Election

Voting for the 2022-2023 budget and Board of Education elections will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at your local neighborhood elementary school (this is usually the school your child or your neighbor’s child attends). If you are uncertain about where you should be voting, you can visit https://nb.findmypollplace.com/valleystream13. If you are not sure whether you are registered to vote, please visit https://nb.findmypollplace.com/valleystream13/AmIRegistered. Petitions for the seat of Antoinette (Toni) Pomerantz and Milagros Vicente are available in the Office of the District Clerk, temporarily located at the Howell Road School, 1475 Howell Road, Valley Stream, NY 11580 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

As the result of the withdrawal of a candidate for the office of Antoinette Pomerantz, the time for filing nominating petitions for such office shall be extended to five o’clock p.m. on May 4, 2022. 

REGISTERING AND VOTING
Residents are encouraged to vote on the elementary and high school budgets, election of members to the Board of Education, and other propositions which come before the voters.

To be eligible to vote, a person must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years old, a resident of the school district for at least 30 days, and registered. Qualified voters may register at the James A. Dever School, Howell Road School, Wheeler Avenue School and Willow Road School any day up until Tuesday, May 10, 2022 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. except Saturday, Sunday, and school vacations.  There will be an in-person evening registration on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the James A. Dever School, Howell Road School, Wheeler Avenue School and Willow Road School. This is the last opportunity to register before the election.

ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION

Absentee ballots are available by submitting an Absentee Ballot Application to the District Clerk by mail to the Office of the District Clerk, James A. Dever School, 585 N. Corona Avenue, Valley Stream, NY 11580 or in-person at the Office of the District Clerk, temporarily located at the Howell Road School, 1475 Howell Road, Valley Stream, NY 11580.

Absentee Ballot Applications are available in the District Clerk’s Office and on our website. Completed applications must be received at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the applicant, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the applicant or to his/her designated agent.  Absentee ballot applications will not be accepted by the District Clerk before April 18, 2022. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. 

MILITARY BALLOT INFORMATION

A military voter who is a qualified voter of the District may obtain a registration form on the District website, contacting the District Clerk at 516-568-6117, email at districtclerk@valleystream13.com, or in person at the Office of the District Clerk, temporarily located at the Howell Road School, 1475 Howell Road, Valley Stream, NY 11580.

A military voter who is registered may obtain and an Application for a Military Ballot located on our website and also by contacting the District Clerk. Completed applications must be personally delivered, emailed or mailed to the District Clerk and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022. Military ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto with a date which is not later than the day before the election, or not later than the close of the polls on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
