Dever Student Council Organizes Thanksgiving Food Drive

December 5, 2017

The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen James A. Dever Elementary School Student Council recently conducted a food drive to benefit local families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday. Generous amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables—donated by the students’ families, friends and neighbors—ensured that there was an assortment of healthy foods for these families to enjoy during the holiday. The students also worked with the Franklin Square Stop and Shop to distribute gift cards redeemable for a Thanksgiving turkey
at the supermarket.

Following the food drive, Student Council members created holiday-themed thank you cards to express their gratitude for each contribution. The community service initiative was supervised by second grade teacher Ms. DeMeo and social worker Ms. Kornfield. The charitable project is one of many programs at James A. Dever Elementary School designed to teach students the importance of giving back to their community. The James A. Dever Student Council would like to wish the entire Valley Stream community a happy and joyful holiday season.
