The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen recently welcomed students and families to a Districtwide interactive math night. The District’s instructional coach for mathematics, Mr. Frias, organized the evening activities comprising multiple thought-provoking and collaborative sessions—allowing students and their parents to work together to determine solutions for the individual exercises.
Students powered-up their math skills in the post-school hours through a series of breakout sessions including an estimation station, a “What do you notice?” math chart station, and stations focused on interactive word problems. Despite the frigid weather, parents and students propelled an outstanding turn out for an event that was both engaging and educational.
The District is always looking for new innovative ways that bring learning to life, whether inside or outside the classroom, while also providing opportunities for parents to be active participants in their child’s educational journeys.
