Howell Road Elementary School Kindergarteners Visit Tanglewood Preserve

November 26, 2025

Howell Road Elementary School’s kindergarten students enjoyed an exciting day of hands-on learning during a recent field trip to the Center for Science, Teaching & Learning (CSTL) at the Tanglewood Preserve. The theme of this year’s adventure was a fun one: Curious Kinders on the Move!

Throughout their visit, students engaged in inquiry-based learning, asking thoughtful questions, making observations, and exploring scientific concepts in an exciting, hands-on environment. A particular highlight was when the students were able to meet live animals up close, learning about their features, habitats, and behaviors and using this hands-on experience to make real-world connections to their classroom lessons. They also ventured through CSTL’s dynamic dinosaur museum, where lifelike prehistoric creatures created a roaring, immersive walk-through experience.

“This trip brings science off the page and into our students’ hands,” said Dr. Jasmine Shepherd, Howell Road Elementary School principal. “Our second graders were excited, curious, and full of thoughtful questions. Experiences like this help spark a lifelong love of learning.”

Teachers and chaperones praised the CSTL staff for their interactive demonstrations and for fostering an engaging atmosphere. Howell Road Elementary School looks forward to continuing its commitment to providing meaningful experiential learning opportunities that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and joyful exploration.
