Howell Road Elementary School recently had the honor of welcoming New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages for a special visit with students learning about leadership and civic engagement.
Assemblywoman Solages met with students who are preparing to run for positions in the school’s Student Council. During her visit, she shared valuable insights on how to effectively promote campaign ideas, connect with peers, and communicate with confidence. Drawing from her own experience running for Student Council in high school, Assemblywoman Solages reflected on how that early opportunity sparked her lifelong commitment to public service and leadership.
Students were inspired by her story and the many roles she has taken on since then, both in government and in her community. The Assemblywoman concluded her visit with encouraging words, reminding students that leadership begins with listening, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference. Howell Road Elementary School continues to foster student leadership and civic awareness through programs like the Student Council, helping students build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility toward their school community.
