Howell Road Gets Theatrical

November 16, 2018

Students at Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen’s Howell Road Elementary School spent some time this week practicing their acting and theatrical skills. The school hosted an in-school theater workshop with the help of a teaching artist from the Tilles Center at LIU Post. Students acted out scenes from Tómas and the Library Lady, singing, learning Spanish and acting with their peers. They did all of this in preparation for a field trip to see the bilingual musical of “Tómas and the Library Lady” live.

Activities like these allow students of Valley Stream Thirteen to expand their learning outside of the classroom, while ensuring that they are still gaining knowledge and broadening their experiences. Learning a different language through song and theatrics creates a participatory learning experience, engaging students and enhancing the learning process. The district strives to provide these unique learning experiences for all its students.
