Howell Students Plant Daffodil Bulbs

December 15, 2016

The Howell Road Elementary School PTA and Garden World in Franklin Square recently organized a day of planting for Howell’s second graders. Students spent the day planting daffodil bulbs in the garden box near the school’s playground. Garden World Nursery donated the 100 daffodil bulbs – giving the second graders the opportunity to experience the joys of a school garden.

The development of the garden coincides with a recent unit in the students’ Superkids Reading Program. Students read about a fictional second grade class who created a rooftop garden of daffodil bulbs. As the year goes on, the characters in the book nurture and care for their garden.

Just as the students in the fictional tale, Howell’s second graders will be learning that it takes hard work to care and maintain a garden. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the beautiful daffodils that will bloom in the spring!
