The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen recently organized a district wide collection of items for those affected by Hurricane Harvey which struck the Texas Gulf Coast, and Hurricane Maria, the third-strongest hurricane ever to hit the US, which left 100 percent of Puerto Rico without power.
The collection of items included non-perishable food, bottled water, and personal items. The school-wide drive was also used as an opportunity to teach students about the importance of giving back and helping others, while lending assistance to the areas affected by a natural disaster.
