James A. Dever Elementary School officially launched its annual Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) program with a magical assembly featuring the Great & Powerful Dave, an educational magician based in the New York area.
Students were captivated as the magician wowed the audience with impressive tricks while delivering an important message about the power of reading. Through laughter, amazement, and audience participation, the Great & Powerful Dave helped students learn the value of reading at least 20 minutes a day and how consistent reading can spark imagination and build lifelong skills.
As part of this year’s PARP program, students will track their reading throughout the month using a BINGO-style activity card, checking off fun and engaging reading challenges as they go. The interactive format encourages students to read independently and with family members, friends, or classmates, making reading a shared and enjoyable experience.
The PARP kickoff assembly set an exciting tone for the weeks ahead and reinforced Dever Elementary’s commitment to fostering a love of reading in a fun and meaningful way. James A. Dever Elementary School looks forward to a month filled with reading, learning, and literacy magic.
