(January 2022)—Valley Stream Union Free School District’s James A. Dever Elementary School students recently participated in the Malverne Mel Poster Contest. The contest is part of the Village of Malverne’s annual Malverne Mel Groundhog Day Ceremony; this year being held at Crossroads Farms on Wednesday, February 2.
“It’s great to see our students showcasing their fantastic artistic abilities,” said Mr. Darren Gruen, Principal of James A. Dever Elementary School. “Thank you to our teachers who are always coming up with different ways to engage our students in community activities.”
The winners from the several local elementary schools participating in the contest will be awarded a special prize provided by the Malverne Civic Association and the Incorporated Village of Malverne. Participants were asked to draw a picture of a groundhog to celebrate Groundhog Day. Artists must be in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade and all entries were done on poster paper using drawing materials such as pencils, markers, colored pencils, or paint.
