Journeys

November 1, 2016

On October 23rd, 4th grade students at James A. Dever Elementary School had an in-house Native American field trip. The Eastern Woodlands Museum came to our very own Dever gymnasium! The museum included a model longhouse large enough for students to walk through. The longhouse contained genuine furs, baskets, rattles and other items for students to see and interact with. In addition, there were over 70 different artifacts in the museum, representing the Iroquois and Algonquian culture. The entire day provided opportunities for students to rotate through the museum, storytelling, craft making, Native American game playing, as well as realistic, Iroquois government role-playing. It was a great day that was enjoyed by all!
