Beginning at the start of this school year, The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen introduced touchscreen, hybrid Chromebooks to all students in second grade classrooms throughout all four elementary schools. The District’s transition to individual Chromebooks for all second graders is an expansion of its one-to-one initiative that provides students in grades three through six their own Chromebooks for use during the instructional day.
These students, most with prior experience with this educational tool, became reacquainted during the first week of school with the programs available on Chromebooks in preparation for upcoming activities and lessons. Offering this interactive technology to second grade students on a regular basis will serve to jumpstart their experience as learners not confined to the walls of a classroom but free to explore new ideas and content.
The District will continue to provide ample opportunities and platforms for students to become literate in technologies— best preparing them for future educational experiences and endeavors.
