The Valley Stream Thirteen Union Free School District’s Willow Road School recently received a special visit from New York Islanders’ mascot Sparky the Dragon. Sparky, joined by Dina Tsiorvas, Islanders Assembly host, spoke to the students about integrating life lessons from sports, including the importance of making smart decisions, eating healthy, staying active, and most importantly—treating others with respect.

During the interactive assembly, the Islanders representatives helped students realize why being committed to making smart decisions is important in not only school, but in all aspects of life. Students also had the opportunity to learn about teamwork. Students were divided into teams and each team had to dress one of its team members in goalie equipment as quickly as they could.

The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen continues to seek opportunities that provide students with essential life skills and educational opportunities.
