The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen’s Howell Road Elementary School recently celebrated the commencement of springtime with a special spring-themed lesson for students in the English as a New Language (ENL) program. Howell Road’s ENL Instructor, Ms. Susana Sousa, led an interactive lesson—teaching students words associated with spring like “flower,” “rainbow,” and “sun” through colorful pictures.
Students then created their own pictures depicting the springtime words they learned and developed sentences incoporating these words. The District continues to provide ENL students in each of the District’s four schools opportunities to learn the English language in a fun and engaging way.
