Summer Recreation Enrollment Skyrockets for Summer 2023

July 31, 2023

Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen’s Summer Recreation Program enrollment of 300+ students is the largest enrollment it has had in many years. In addition to the hundreds of student participants, Summer Recreation has approximately 50 employees working to make the program a success. Employees include a Principal, building directors, two assistant directors, counselors, junior counselors, and community volunteers.

During the academic year, students socialize and collaborate with other students in their home school. The summer program aims to provide students with opportunities to share experiences with grade-level peers from across the entire district.

“The Summer Recreation Program has yielded a tremendous amount of support from our community members,” said Cindy Gervasi, Summer School Principal. “Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen is providing our next generation of leaders with enriching experiences to build lifelong connections with their grade-level peers. I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community program.”

A typical day is split between indoor and outdoor activities. This includes dance, art, Mad Science, bouncy houses, and field trips to nearby community spots including the movie theater and bowling alley.

The program runs from July 5 to August 4, 2023. It is held at James A. Dever Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and is open to all Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen students entering kindergarten through sixth grade.
