(AUGUST 2022)—Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen recently held its Superintendent’s Conference Day at James A. Dever Elementary School. All of Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen teachers and staff came together outside on the school’s field to enjoy a light breakfast and listen to inspiring and motivating words from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Judith LaRocca and the Valley Stream Teachers’ Association unit leaders, Jackie Schimmenti, Debora O’Connor, Eva Jedynak and Nanci Brochhagen.
“It was wonderful to welcome back our outstanding educational team. I am eager to embark on our 2022-2023 school year journey and see what amazing accomplishments will be achieved this year by our students and faculty, ” said Dr. LaRocca. “On behalf of the Board of Education and my central administrative team, thank you to all the District teachers and staff for joining us for our in-person celebration and engaging in this critically important preparation day for the opening of schools. ”
After meeting outside, everyone was invited to a faculty meeting in their respective school building to listen to a virtual presentation by Dr. LaRocca, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Lisa Dunn, Executive Director of Special Services, on self-care, emotional health, and understanding student mental health. The day was also focused on independent professional development by going over courses on Parent Square, classroom, and instructional planning.
