VS13 Students Participate in a Candy Land Themed ELA Review Day
Recently, students in Mrs. Lepe/Ms. Roberti and Mr. Costantino’s 4th grade classes at Willow Road School and 5th graders in Ms. Byrnes and Mrs. Villa’s class at Howell Road School in Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen participated in a Candy Land themed ELA review day to help students prepare for the upcoming state assessments.
The teachers transformed their classrooms into classic locations found on the Candy Land game board. Students were able to practice comprehension skills after reading passages about the development of the Candy Land game in the Peppermint Forest, identify text structure in the Cupcake Castle, and review character traits after reading the “Official Bios” of the residents of Candy Land in the Licorice Castle.
The students were able to collaborate with one another using their Chromebooks to answer questions in a Gimkit ELA review game, and concluded the day by playing a modified version of Candy Land to review key ELA skills and concepts.
