(MARCH, 2022)—In celebration of Youth Art Month, the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) in partnership with New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) presented their 32nd Annual Legislative Student Art Exhibit virtually. The NYSATA Legislative Art Exhibit is the flagship event for Youth Art Month and the largest public display of student artwork in a government building.
“Youth Art Month reminds us of the vital role that art plays in a student’s education. Research shows that art can help develop skills such as creative and emotive thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and persistence. As students journey through their elementary school years and beyond, art supports the development of their cognitive and multisensory skills,” said Dr. LaRocca, Superintendent of Valley Stream 13 Schools. “I would like to offer a special thank you to our art teachers who foster our students’ passion for art and encourage them to be creative and expressive through their work.”
For the NYSATA art exhibition, artwork selections were displayed from two students from each of the District’s four schools. Art teachers in each of the schools also created displays of their students’ artwork in celebration of Youth Art Month.
