The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen recently announced that it has appointed John Frias as the new principal of Wheeler Avenue School. The Board of Education appointed Mr. Frias on July 25, 2019 after an extensive search for the best candidate to fill the position. He will succeed Dr. Gayle Steele, who recently accepted a position in the South Huntington Union Free School District.
“We are thrilled that Mr. Frias is returning to our District and we are certain that his leadership will continue to advance the exceptional educational experience offered at the Wheeler Avenue School.,” said Dr. Constance D. Evelyn, Superintendent of Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen. “We are committed to ensuring that Mr. Frias and the Wheeler Avenue School will have the resources to help all students and staff be successful.”
Prior to his appointment as principal of Wheeler Avenue School, Mr. Frias worked in the District as a fifth grade teacher and instructional math coach. Last year, Mr. Frias was the assistant principal at Hewlett Elementary School in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District. Mr. Frias’ educational resume also includes twelve years in the New York City school system as a fifth grade teacher. Dr. Evelyn noted, “Mr. Frias has had many successes as a school leader, including building strong relationships with community and school stakeholders, and in the area of curriculum/program development and implementation. These are qualities that make Mr. Frias a perfect fit for our District.”
