Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen Honors Veterans Day

Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen honored Veterans Day with a range of engaging activities, lessons, and assemblies that demonstrated the district’s gratitude toward the brave Americans who have served in the military.

At Howell Road Elementary School, students participated in various activities to commemorate Veterans Day. They read stories that highlighted the sacrifices and bravery of veterans, sang patriotic songs, and created red poppies as a symbol of remembrance. Additionally, each classroom organized its own Veterans Day parade, allowing students to showcase their appreciation for veterans.

James A. Dever Elementary School focused on educating students about the significance of being a veteran. Students drew flags and learned about the different roles and responsibilities of veterans. They also wrote heartfelt messages expressing their gratitude and explored various ways to thank veterans for their service.

Willow Road Elementary School hosted a special assembly to honor veterans. The school invited veterans from the local community to speak about their experiences and the importance of Veterans Day. Students actively participated in the assembly, expressing their gratitude, and thanking the veterans for their selfless service. Wheeler Avenue Elementary School students were visited by their previous Principal, Dr. John Frias who is a veteran who read aloud 21 Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
