Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen Participate in Hands-On Learning for Election Day

November 25, 2024

During Election Day, students in Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen engaged in a fun and educational activity designed to teach them about the importance of voting and democracy.

For example, Howell Road Elementary School students participated in a special classroom activity where they cast their votes using official ballots. The students were presented with a list of favorite books on which to vote, allowing them to practice the democratic process in a hands-on way. After learning about the significance of Election Day, the voting process, and how elections help shape our society, students received their ballots to cast their votes for their favorite book. Ballots were collected, and the votes were tallied, teaching students the importance of making choices and participating in elections.

This hands-on activity not only provided a fun and creative way for students to learn about the democratic process but also helped them understand the role of elections in shaping communities and fostering civic engagement.
