October 19, 2022

(OCTOBER 2022)—Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen students celebrated Fire Prevention Week from Sunday, October 9 to Saturday, October 15. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week with the theme “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”

“Our students had a great time learning about fire prevention and the importance of keeping themselves safe,” said Dr. Judith LaRocca, Superintendent of Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen Schools. “It’s extremely important to educate our students on how to react in case of a fire. Thank you to the Malverne Fire Department for taking the time to visit our students.”

Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen students had a great time with their in-house field trip with the Malverne Fire Department. Students learned about devices around the house that could help keep them safe and spoke about the importance of having a fire escape plan. They also practiced their stop, drop, and roll and took a tour inside the fire truck. Some of the schools even had a virtual tour of the FDNY Fire Academy and were able to ask the firefighters questions about fire safety.
