Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen’s 19 fourth-grade students from all four district elementary schools participated in the annual PEAK Festival. The event held at Freeport High School was hosted by the Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA) and brought together young musicians from across Nassau County for a full day of joyful music-making.
PEAK, which stands for Parents, Educators, and Kids, is a unique one-day festival designed to immerse students and their families in hands-on musical experiences. This year’s workshops offered a diverse range of activities, including World Music Drumming, Folk Dancing Fun, and Ukulele Jam, allowing participants to explore new instruments, rhythms, and cultural traditions.
Students from James A. Dever, Howell Road, Wheeler Avenue, and Willow Road Elementary Schools proudly represented Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen. With each student joined by a parent, the festival highlighted the strong partnership between home and school, reinforcing how family involvement enhances learning and creativity.
The day concluded with a collaborative “informance”, a performance-style sharing session where all participating students and parents gathered to showcase what they had learned. The culminating event celebrated community, musical expression, and the joy of making music together.
