October 24, 2023

Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen’s Wheeler Avenue Elementary School recently celebrated Unity Day, a day dedicated to promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusivity among students, staff, and the entire community. The school was awash with orange, symbolizing unity, as students donned their brightest orange attire to support the cause.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing Unity Day with such enthusiasm,” said Dr. Ruth Peets-Butcher, Principal of Wheeler Avenue Elementary School. “Their commitment to creating a kind, accepting, and inclusive environment is truly inspiring.”

Unity Day is a national initiative that encourages students to unite against bullying for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Wheeler Avenue Elementary School joined thousands nationwide in observing this important day.

In addition to wearing orange, Wheeler Avenue Elementary School students pledged to uphold the values of kindness, acceptance, and inclusivity. This pledge serves as a reminder of the commitment each student has made to create a positive and welcoming environment for all.

The school’s Kindness Club, a group dedicated to promoting kindness within the school community, created special Unity Day banners. These banners were displayed throughout the school building as visual reminders of Unity Day’s central theme.
