October 19, 2023

Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen’s Wheeler Avenue Elementary School recently hosted a vibrant and educational Multicultural Night, where students and families showcased their diverse cultures and heritages. The event was a colorful display of traditional outfits, cultural food, and informative presentations about different heritages.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and families for their enthusiastic participation in our Multicultural Night,” said Dr. Ruth Peets-Butcher, Principal of Wheeler Avenue Elementary School. “This event was a wonderful way to celebrate and learn about the diverse cultures that make up our great school community.”

The school’s multicultural night was a celebration of the rich diversity that exists within the Wheeler Avenue Elementary School community. Students and their families were encouraged to wear outfits that represented their cultural backgrounds, bringing a visual feast of colors, patterns, and styles from around the world.

In addition to the cultural fashion show, families brought a variety of traditional dishes to share, offering a taste of the world’s cuisines. The event also featured presentations where students shared information about their heritage. These presentations allowed students and parents to learn about different cultures, traditions, and histories, fostering belonging and understanding. The Multicultural Night is a part of Wheeler Avenue Elementary School’s ongoing commitment to promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity. Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen believes that understanding and appreciation of different cultures is key to fostering a welcoming and affirming learning environment for all.
