Wheeler Avenue Student Wins National PTA Award

December 12, 2017

Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen is proud to announce that Joselyn Aponte, a sixth grade student at Wheeler Avenue Elementary School, was recently awarded the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Reflections Award of Merit for her visual arts piece titled, “The Rest is Still Unwritten.” As part of Valley Stream’s annual participation, students are tasked with submitting original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

Joselyn was recognized at the Nassau Region PTA/Principal’s Dinner for her artistic vision, skill and creativity in visually communicating this year’s national theme, “Within Reach.” The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen will continue to encourage students to express their creativity and develop confidence in their abilities to explore ideas and learn through the arts by offering students opportunities to participate in community-wide art projects and nationwide contests.
