For Willow Road Elementary students, September not only signals the start of a new school year but is also a time to give back to the community. Once again, as is tradition with Willow Road, students generously donated snack foods to help local families. Donations were coordinated by the Student Council. Healthy food snack items such as juice boxes, single-serve cereal, granola bars, peanut butter snack cups, and chips were collected. Snack foods were selected for donation in recognition that often times food programs do not cover snack foods and children still want to enjoy fun, yet healthy options in their lunches.
“I am very proud of our Student Council members and the students in Willow Road Elementary,” said Ms. Rosalie Ambrosio, Principal of Willow Road Elementary School. “It’s gratifying to see the students come together to give back to the community so that other students can have a nice snack in their lunch boxes. This is a tradition at Willow Road Elementary we are planning to keep.”
The Student Council members gathered and organized the snack boxes after being collected in every classroom. There were over 20 boxes and bags of food collected that were donated to the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) in Hempstead.
