Willow Road Elementary School Students Immerse Themselves in the Rich History of Afro-Latin Music at the LeFrak Concert Hall

Talented student musicians at Willow Road Elementary School embarked on a musical journey like no other when they visited LeFrak Concert Hall at Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College. The evening was a celebration of Afro-Latin music, with a special focus on its roots in New York’s vibrant melting pot of the 1950s and 1960s.

The students were treated to a captivating musical called Cubop to Hip Hop, which delved deep into the history and evolution of Afro-Latin music. Through the lens of Latin music icons, Salcedo’s Latin Soup Group showcased how this genre of music has shaped funk and hip-hop, leaving a lasting mark on the music industry.

As the rhythmic beats filled the air, students were transported back to an era of cultural fusion and musical innovation. They learned about the influences of Afro-Latin music gaining a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of different musical genres. One of the highlights of the evening was when some of the Willow Road students took to the stage and performed alongside the seasoned musicians.
