The Valley Stream Union Free School District Thirteen’s Willow Road Elementary School recently celebrated the autumn season with a pumpkin patch in the school yard. Sponsored yearly by the PTA, the pumpkin patch provides students with an opportunity to walk through a pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin of their own to take home. Students also used their estimation skills to guess how many pieces of candy corn were in a jar set up on a table at the front of the patch for a chance to win a special prize for their whole class.
The event also gives students a chance to bond with one another in a new environment, and to learn the importance of teamwork and understanding as they worked together towards a common goal while estimating the candy in the jar.
